Program offers leadership training to emerging oncologists
Members interested in taking a larger role in ASCO have a chance to gain extensive exposure to the Society’s mission, leadership positions within the organization, and ASCO’s role in improving cancer care and patient welfare by participating in the organization’s formal Leadership Development Program.
The year-long program is designed to set early-career oncologists on the path to becoming future leaders within the Society. The Leadership Development Program requires a time commitment for travel and training. Program participants are required to attend all Leadership meetings/activities, including the 2010 ASCO Annual Meeting in Chicago, Illinois, and three visits to workshops in Washington, DC. During this time, participants will network with Society leaders, participate in a leadership boot camp at ASCO Headquarters, and gain firsthand knowledge about key ASCO research activities.
Members will also participate in an interactive learning project, allowing them to collaborate with both ASCO staff and volunteers. The project will offer hands-on training that will further their leadership skills as well as benefit the Society.
Program participants will graduate from the Leadership Development Program during the 2011 ASCO Annual Meeting in Chicago. Upon completion of the program, graduates will have opportunities to enter into roles in ASCO’s committees and task forces.

- Be a physician (MD, DO, or international equivalent with explanation)
- Have completed final subspecialty training between 2000 and 2005
- Be currently licensed and residing in the United States
- Be an active member of ASCO
- Have a supervisor/senior member from one’s institution/practice provide a letter of support. If the supervisor/senior member is not an active ASCO Member, a supporting letter from an active ASCO member must be included.
